Appeals Court Decision Extends Government's Liability to Section 8 Owners

HUD Announces Employee Furloughs Due to Sequestration

In a memo to staff sent on Feb. 28, Deputy HUD Secretary Maurice Jones said “the impact of sequestration on HUD programs will be dramatic.” The Secretary has testified that over 200,000 people will lose their HUD-funded housing assistance and that HUD must also reduce its salaries and expenses by $66.6 million.

Report Assesses HUD’s Fair Housing Enforcement

HUD Issues 2013 Income Limits

On Dec. 4, HUD released new income limits for fiscal year 2013 that determine eligibility for its assisted housing programs. The income limits took effect immediately. The income limits are set as a percentage of area median income adjusted for household size. HUD Updates Guidance on Treatment of Registered Sex Offenders

HUD recently released Notice PIH 2012-28 “State Registered Lifetime Sex Offenders in Federally Assisted Housing.” Although this notice was released under the Public and Indian Housing Department, it still applies to many multifamily programs. HUD Sets Permanent Cap on PHA Executive Salaries

On June 5, HUD announced that it's clamping down on excessive pay at public housing authorities, setting caps that extend and expand limits imposed by Congress. The action comes as HUD revealed that the top official at the Atlanta housing agency received a compensation package of $644,214, the highest in the country.

President's Budget Not Sufficient to Fully Renew Rental Assistance

According to a recent report by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP), President Obama's fiscal year 2013 budget request for HUD is at least $1.7 billion below the amount needed to fully renew rental assistance provided this year under HUD's three major rental assistance programs for low-income households: the Housing Choice Voucher, public housing, and Section 8 project-based rental assistance programs.
