San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro was recently confirmed by the Senate as HUD secretary by a vote of 71-27, with 18 Republicans supporting the prominent Latino Democrat. On May 21, HUD issued guidance making $5 million in tenant protection voucher assistance available for certain at-risk households in low-vacancy areas. Notice HUD 2014-13 provides instructions, eligibility, and selection criteria for $5 million of the $130 million appropriated for tenant protection actions in the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2014 (PL 113-76).
