Senate Confirms Julian Castro as HUD Secretary

San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro was recently confirmed by the Senate as HUD secretary by a vote of 71-27, with 18 Republicans supporting the prominent Latino Democrat. Castro was first elected to the San Antonio city council in 2001 and was elected mayor in 2009. He has served three terms as mayor. And as mayor, Castro made the construction of affordable housing in San Antonio one of his administration’s goals.

HUD Releases TRACS 202D Implementation Schedule

HUD's Sandy Settlement Brings Renewed Multifamily Focus

Recently, HUD approved New Jersey's plan for spending $1.46 billion in the second round of storm aid intended to help the thousands of people on waiting lists for Superstorm Sandy rebuilding assistance. New Jersey received $1.8 billion in Sandy aid last year. All told, it will receive about $4.2 billion, a small fraction of the cost of damage from the October 2012 storm.

Appropriations Committee Approves FY 2015 T-HUD Bill

On May 21, the House Appropriations Committee approved by a vote of 28 to 21 the FY 2015 Transportation-HUD (T-HUD) appropriations bill. The House bill has a funding level of $52.03 billion, $1.2 billion more than the FY 2014 enacted funding level and $7.8 billion less than the president’s FY 2015 budget request. More Voucher Assistance Funding for Owners in Low-Vacancy Areas

May 28, 2014

On May 21, HUD issued guidance making $5 million in tenant protection voucher assistance available for certain at-risk households in low-vacancy areas. Notice HUD 2014-13 provides instructions, eligibility, and selection criteria for $5 million of the $130 million appropriated for tenant protection actions in the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2014 (PL 113-76). HUD will accept requests for assistance on a rolling basis until the funding is exhausted.
