Developers to Pay $11.3M Settlement in Disability Discrimination Case

NY Landlords Pay $15K to Settle Case Involving Emotional Support Animal

HUD recently announced that the owners and agent of an New York apartment complex have agreed to pay $15,000 to settle allegations that they refused to allow a woman with mental disabilities to keep an assistance animal.

Federal fair housing law prohibits housing providers from denying or limiting housing to persons with disabilities and from refusing to make reasonable accommodations in policies or practices, which includes denying service animal requests.

Wisconsin Landlords Accused of Discriminating Against Family with Five Children

HUD recently charged the owners of a three-bedroom duplex in Wisconsin with discrimination for refusing to rent to a family because they have children. 

The Fair Housing Act makes it unlawful to deny or limit housing because a family has children under the age of 18 and to make statements that discriminate against families with children.

N.J. Landlord Charged with Race Discrimination

Nov 14, 2018

HUD recently announced that it has charged a New Jersey property owner with housing discrimination for allegedly refusing to rent an apartment to an African-American woman because of her race. HUD’s charge further alleged that the owner used racial slurs in a text message he sent to the woman informing her that she didn’t get the apartment.

The Fair Housing Act makes it illegal to deny housing to someone because of his or her race or color.
