Federal Court Dismisses AFFH Lawsuit Against HUD

A judge for the D.C. district court dismissed a lawsuit brought by fair housing advocacy groups for a preliminary injunction against HUD for withdrawing the Local Government Assessment Tool, which communities have been required to use in completing the Assessment of Fair Housing (AFH) that determined whether they are in compliance with the 2015 Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) Rule.

HUD Releases Notice on Executive Compensation for 2017

HUD recently issued Notice PIH-2018-13 providing additional information on calendar year (CY) 2017 executive compensation reporting. The notice specifically instructs PHAs on how to use the HUD-52725 Form that reports executive compensation for CY 2017. PHAs must report compensation for the top management official, the top financial official, and the highest compensated employee who is neither the top management official nor the top financial official.

Smoking Ban in Public Housing in Effect

Public housing agencies (PHAs) were required to implement smoke-free policies by July 31. The no-smoking policy applies to all public housing units, interior areas (including but not limited to hallways, rental and administrative offices, community centers, day care centers, laundry centers, and similar locations), and outdoor areas within 25 feet of public housing and administrative office buildings.

PHA Agrees to Upgrade Public Housing for the Disabled

HUD recently approved a Voluntary Compliance Agreement (VCA) between the Hawaii Disability Rights Center and the Hawaii Public Housing Authority (HPHA). The HPHA has agreed to upgrade living units to meet accessibility standards, resolving a federal investigation that unearthed hundreds of violations last year. HUD Releases Housing Counseling NOFA for FY 2018

HUD recently issued a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for its Housing Counseling Grant program for fiscal year (FY) 2018. All HUD-approved counseling entities, including state HFAs, are eligible to apply.
