HA Commissioner Arrested for Allegations of Bribery

A Hoboken (New Jersey) Housing Authority commissioner has been charged with accepting money in exchange for moving up someone who was on the waiting list for Section 8 housing.

The Mayor of Hoboken, who said the allegations were serious, called for the commissioner’s resignation. If the commissioner doesn’t resign, he asked that the city council begin proceedings to remove him. Then, on July 23, the FBI arrested the mayor, along with approximately another 39 other New Jersey officials, local government workers, and religious leaders, based on evidence found in a sting on a money-laundering operation that the FBI had been investigation for several years. The criminal complaint, filed against the mayor in the U.S. District Court of New Jersey, alleged that the mayor accepted money for information about an all-rental apartment building that might be coming on the market.
