Senators Send HUD Letter Opposing Proposed Mixed-Status Immigrant-Family Rule

A group of 19 Democratic senators led by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) recently sent a letter to HUD Secretary Carson opposing the agency’s proposal to prohibit mixed-status immigrant families from living in public and other subsidized housing.

The letter stated they believe the “proposed rule is antithetical to HUD’s mission to create strong, sustainable, and inclusive communities that provide quality affordable housing for all. The letter further notes that 25,000 families, including 55,000 children who are U.S. citizens or who have legal status, are at risk of being made homeless by HUD’s proposal.
