DOB and FDNY Propose Amendments to City Rules

DOB has proposed amending the rules relating to gas piping inspections, with a hearing held on Oct. 27, 2025. Under Local Law 152 of 2016, gas piping systems must be inspected periodically, and certificates of inspection must be submitted to the owner and DOB.

DOB also has proposed amending the rules relating to the Electrical Code, with a hearing to be held on Nov. 13, 2025. Local Law 128 of 2024, which becomes effective on Dec. 21, 2025, made the Electrical Code a part of the NYC construction codes. The proposed revision allows for and standardizes many agency practices related to this area of regulation. 

The FDNY has proposed a rule addressing the fire and explosion hazard posed by uncertified storage batteries for powered mobility devices. A hearing was held on Oct. 1, 2025.
