HUD Funds Projects to Tackle Lead Paint Hazards

Mar 29, 2010

HUD has released more than $13 million in grants for 25 projects to conduct activities intended to make low-income housing safer and healthier. Funded activities include: eliminating lead and housing-related hazards in thousands of homes; training workers in lead and healthy homes interventions; supporting research to improve home safety efforts; increasing public awareness; and evaluating outreach on controlling housing-based hazards.

The funding is being disbursed in 15 states through four HUD programs: Healthy Homes Demonstration Grant Program; Healthy Homes Technical Studies Grants; Green and Healthy Homes Technical Studies Grants; and Lead Hazard Control Capacity Building Grant Program.

In the past year, HUD has awarded over $232 million in Lead and Healthy Homes grants; $116 million in Lead Hazard Control and Lead Hazard Reduction Demonstration grants; and this $13 million for Healthy Homes, Tech Studies, and Green Initiatives.
