Congress Approves Short-Term Continuing Resolution

President Trump recently signed into law a Continuing Resolution (CR, H.J. Res. 123) to keep the federal government funded through Dec. 22. The new CR funds federal programs, including HUD, at FY 2017 levels and extends the National Flood Insurance Program and the Children's Health Insurance Program through Dec. 22 and 31, respectively.

The White House and lawmakers said the bill will give them more time to negotiate several end-of-the-year agenda items, including the budget, a children’s health program, and hurricane aid. As a result of the bill, Congress will have until Dec. 22 to negotiate a budget deal that sets higher spending caps for defense and non-defense discretionary programs than those provided by the Budget Control Act of 2011 and which could get 60 votes in the Senate.
